Driving Directions
General information:
We are in a snow zone - from November 1st to April 1st it is required by the Department of Transportation to carry chains or have traction tires on your vehicle. Estacada and Hood River routes are closed during these dates.
Please DO NOT use GPS, Google Maps, Apple Maps, or any similar apps to navigate all the way to Breitenbush. There are many unused logging roads around us that can confuse these apps and get you lost in a place without cell service. If you’d like to use an app to navigate most of the way to us from the Bend, Eugene, or Salem areas, set your destination to Detroit Lake Marina, then follow the directions below.
Coming from Detroit, OR: Drive 9.1 miles up Forest Service Road 46 (also called Breitenbush Road) from the town of Detroit. You’ll see a sign for Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat and Conference Center on the right, just after Cleator Bend Campground. Cross the bridge and turn left. Take the left at every fork, and follow the gravel road and signs to our parking lot and Gatehouse.
Coming from Estacada, OR (CLOSED during winter): Drive 62.9 miles from the town of Estacada. You’ll see a wide left turn, and a sign for Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat and Conference Center. Cross the bridge and follow the gravel road and signs to our parking lot and Gatehouse.
Coming from Hood River, OR (CLOSED during winter): Drive 95.6 miles from the town of Hood River. You’ll see a wide left turn, and a sign for Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat and Conference Center. Cross the bridge and follow the gravel road and signs to our parking lot and Gatehouse.
*please note: taxis and rideshare services like Uber and Lyft will not come out to Breitenbush.

Wildfire and Smoke Information
The unfortunate reality is that every late summer in the Pacific Northwest is fire and smoke season. Fire activity typically begins in July (though it can be as early as June), and usually continues until the fall rains come in September or early October.
As you can imagine after the fire of 2020, we here at Breitenbush pay close attention to wildfire activity. We, along with our partners in the on-site Breitenbush Fire Department, monitor any nearby fires on a daily basis. We also keep an eye on the Air Quality Index (AQI), which is a measure of the amount of smoke in the air, and check weather forecasts to determine if the AQI will be going up or down.
If fire and/or smoke conditions mean it is unsafe for guests to visit Breitenbush, we will reach out to you before your arrival. You are also encouraged to check conditions yourself if you would like to. You can click here to find a page that has links to a live, interactive fire and smoke map, and a link to check the current on-site AQI from a sensor here on the property at Breitenbush. You’ll also find a link to our AQI cancellation and evacuation policy. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at office@breitenbush.com.
Covid Policy
