“Protest is not the end of progress, it is the beginning.” -- Lizzo

We at Breitenbush stand in solidarity with those affected by police brutality and the systemic oppression that pervades our society. We support those on the front lines demanding justice for the murder of George Floyd and so many other black, indigenous and people of color.

We recognize the racist, violent and profit-driven patterns this country has followed since the moment of colonization, and acknowledge that we are part of that system. We are working to open our eyes and wake up from complicity.

Breitenbushers have been gathering to self-educate and collectively begin addressing the lack of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in our co-op. We hope to initiate a cultural shift at Breitenbush in the direction of DEI, and to interrupt racist ideology. We understand that this is a long road on which we are just taking the first step. However, it is a road we are committed to walking. We commit to creating change through inclusion-focused hiring practices, promoting workshops made by and for BIPOC communities, and cultivating a safer and more accessible environment for guests and community members.

Conversations are important to interrupting racism, and action is an important next step. We invite you, as the beloved extended community of Breitenbush, to take action and donate to Black Lives Matter or the Radical Dharma Liberation Movement Project.

We hope to continue to support the education and transformation of racist structures that have prevailed in this country for too long.
