Through practices
of yoga we experience love, grace, openness, contentment and joy. Yet we don’t sustain this luminous understanding. What gets in the way? Explore fundamental obstacles to living as love: human restlessness, imbalanced living, mental habits and conditioning that keeps us tied to more primitive thinking.

Through psycho-educational discussions, we address key elements of human restlessness. Yoga practices, breathing techniques and meditation support us in addressing anxiety, self-critical thinking and ambivalence, guiding us to the love that is our basic nature and giving us skills to maintain that love.

Sarahjoy Marsh, MA, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500 yoga teacher, yoga therapist and author, is a vibrant, compassionate catalyst for transformation. She founded Oregon’s Prison Yoga Programs in 1998, and has taught publicly since 1993, integrating ayurveda, interpersonal neurobiology, and the psychology and practice of yoga. Proceeds from retreats support prison yoga outreach for which Sarahjoy has actively volunteered for over 21 years.

Jay Gregory, PhD, is a clinical psychologist with 24 years in couples therapy and anxiety issues, using insight-oriented psychodynamics to help clients transform through reinterpreting emotional and interpersonal processes.

Felt Sense (FS) is the “sensory” non-verbal landscape within
the physical body. It directs attention from thoughts, emotions and external situations towards our current, fluid, somatic experiences.
FS is recognized with presence, bringing vague and seemingly indescribable internal sensations into clear expression. By entering into this process of curious inquiry, FS bridges the unconscious/subconscious self with the conscious self.

We will focus on recognizing and experiencing FS, utilizing elements of Biodynamic Breathwork & Trauma Release® to encourage integration and embodiment, without labeling sensations with meaning. This brings understanding that emotions, reactions, behaviors are also fluid which supports a diminished or non attachment to how we define/judge ourselves or others.

Breath, touch, movement, meditation, sound and pristine nature, will facilitate
a profound connection with the sensations moving throughout your mind-body system.

Chetana works with BBTRI® as training leader and session facilitator. Her connection to universal spirit, human conditioning and self discovery led to a profound lifestyle shift where inspired service leads the way. She supports with strong, grounded presence and a compassionate heart filled with joy & humor.

As yoga students, we are always learning, filling our wells and receiving deeper insights through continued practice and study. As yoga practitioners, we seek a sangha, or community, with whom we can share our journey. What better place than Breitenbush to spend five days soaking in the teachings of yoga, ayurveda, anatomy, and Non-Violent Communication (NVC) with two highly knowledgeable teachers and a group of dedicated practitioners?

Together we’ll explore daily yoga practices that nourish and strengthen methods to understand your personal constitution (dosha), ways of communicating that are meaningful and compassionate, and more!

This retreat can be taken as part of the 8 Limbs 500-hour Teacher Training. 8 Limbs is a family of yoga studios in Seattle committed to being a supportive and welcoming place to learn and grow through the mind-body practices of yoga. For more information email teachertraining@8limbsyoga.com.

Senior 8 Limbs Yoga Center instructors Melina Meza and Chiara Guerrieri (each with more than 20 years of teaching experience) will help you integrate your studies “off the mat” into daily life.

EDGU (edge-you) is evolutionary spinal maintenance. Grounded in an open, stable stance that specifically isolates all motion to the spine, the upper body is gracefully gyrated through a fluid sequence of pivotal movements. This art of rhythmic spinal tuning systematically exercises the intervertebral discs to avoid disc degeneration by maintaining their inherent strength, pliability and absorbency. EDGU balances the left and right hemispheres of the body/brain, keeps the vertebral bodies mobile, liberates spinal compensation patterns and creates a “wholly” experience, blending body movement with spiritual invocation.

The EDGU Training program is a five-day event for learning the 14-step EDGU sequence. Daily schedule includes EDGU classes, step-by-step EDGU instruction, practice sessions, in-depth spinal maintenance insights, free time and laughter. Whether EDGU is cultivated as a personal practice, shared one on one as EDGU therapy or taught in group classes, you will fully activate your ‘Edge You’ experience. This event enjoys the many benefits and experiences that come along with Jeffrey and the Vitalist Institute offerings.

“Few regions pack such a variety of trails into an area crossable by a two-hour drive,” writes William Sullivan about the Oregon Cascades. We will explore as much as
can be packed into a seven-day trip. Our hikes will include cold creeks in foothills, wooded lakes, rushing rivers, barren lava fields and vistas of snow-capped peaks from above tree line. We will sleep in large tents provided by the retreat center, eat breakfast and dinner in the lodge and pack our lunches to take on the trail.

This is a Sierra Club National Outing. For more information email Rob or visit the Sierra Club website: sierraclub.org/outings/search. Search for Oregon in July, or trip #20230A.

Robert Lowe attended his first Sierra Club backpack trip over 40 years ago. Motivated both by the beauty of the outdoors and by the close relationships that develop on Sierra Club trips, Robert began leading trips in 2015. Co-leader Ann Bernstein has led Sierra Club trips since 2015; trips include activities such as canoeing, sea kayaking, backpacking, skiing and dogsledding.

Everywhere in nature you are surrounded by delicious wild food. You can easily learn to find, recognize and harvest this bounty. Gathering and eating food from wild nature creates deep connections with the plants and places where you forage. You begin seeing plants you know instead of just a sea of green, and they feel like generous friends and not just pictures in a book. You’ll learn about all stages of their life, where they like to grow, and who else eats them. Wild edibles are chemical-free concentrated packets of nutrition. We’ll share some simple and delicious recipes. Spend two days forest bathing at Breitenbush as you learn skills and connection with your wild green relations.

Cader Olive has lived and taught in wild nature for 40 years. He brings skills and knowledge from science, practical living and spiritual connection to his workshops. He earned a Ph.D. in ecology, and founded and taught at his nature education center for 15 years. He currently lives and teaches in Portland, OR.

You are not who you think you are. Beneath the habits of anxiety, self-hatred, addiction, anger and depression there exist within you oceans of ease, love, compassion and happiness. The ancient meditation teachings of the Buddha are effective ways to manifest these vast potentials. This silent retreat includes sitting, walking, movement and eating meditations. Thorough instruction will be offered.

In keeping with Buddhist tradition,
the workshop fee covers room and board only. The teacher’s livelihood depends upon your practice of generosity. Your gifts (dana) at the end of the retreat make the teachings available to others.

Robert Beatty, MES, MSW, is the founder and guiding teacher of the Portland Insight Meditation Community. He brings 45 years of Buddhist Dharma practice to his teaching and work with individuals. Robert is a member of the first wave of lay Theravada Buddhist teachers who brought Buddhism from Asia to America. Robert uses humor, poetry and drumming to teach meditation for all aspects of everyday life, including intimate relationships, parenting, work and community.

Welcome to a full-immersion astrological experience; spending five days in an intimate setting and exploring your individual relationship to the cosmos.

Whatever level of astrological experience you may have, this special retreat will deepen your knowledge of astrology, increase awareness of your own patterns, and forever alter your perspective of your relationship with time. Rick has a teaching style that connects with beginners to advanced professionals.

We each possess a chart that is an imprint of the moment of our birth, and the relationship between the planetary movement and a natal chart is how we understand the nature of unfolding events and their timing. Rick will calculate the natal horoscope for every person who attends the workshop and use these charts as the curriculum for the retreat.

Rick Levine is a professional astrologer whose daily forecasts appeared online for 17 years. He co-authored (with Jeff Jawer) eight years of Your Astrology Guide. Rick is a frequent lecturer at astrology conferences around the world and has an active astrology counseling practice out of Redmond, WA.

Reiki is a form of natural healing that takes place through gentle, sacred touch. It restores health and harmony to the physical body, releases emotional blockages and activates a closer connection to spirit. Reiki works with the vibration of love and compassion and is
an easy form of self-healing. Its recent origins have been traced back to Japan in the late 1800’s and the inspired work of
Dr. Mikao Usui. The opening to this simple and mysterious universal life energy happens through a series of initiations and the practice of the form through various hand positions. Frank honors the oral tradition and Phyllis Furumoto as the lineage bearer. This is a First Degree Reiki class.

Frank Coppieters, PhD, Reiki Master, LMT #2385, taught at the graduate level for 13 years at the University of Antwerp in Belgium before he became a spiritual teacher, counselor and Reiki Master. He has a full-time private practice in Portland where he does Reiki, massage, shamanistic work and counseling.

As we approach the end of our current cycle of ages, increasing numbers of Western spiritual seekers are learning to access the inner worlds for power and protection, support and healing, utilizing an ancient method of meditation called shamanic journeywork. This weekend workshop will provide participants with a powerful introduction to the shaman’s path, leading them into connection with their helping spirits and spirit teachers, exploring the issue of personal empowerment. Bring a hand drum or rattle, a notebook, an eye shade and a light blanket.

Hank Wesselman PhD., anthropologist, has spent much of his life with traditional people in Africa. He is the author of nine books on shamanism. His most recent are The Re-Enchantment: A Shamanic Path to a Life of Wonder, The Bowl of Light: Ancestral Wisdom from a Hawaiian Shaman and the award-winning Awakening to the Spirit World (with Sandra Ingerman).

River Ledgerwood is a Sufi, a shamanist and spirit medicine practitioner who co-teaches with Hank Wesselman at their workshops in the Pacific Northwest, riverledgerwood@protonmail.com.
