Mindfulness (vipassana) meditation is the art being awake in the present. On this silent retreat, we will be mindful of every activity, from sitting in the meditation hall, to walking in the ancient forest, to bathing in the hot springs.
You will go home really knowing how to meditate. In keeping with Buddhist tradition, the workshop fee covers room and board only. You may offer support for the teacher and these priceless teachings by offering a financial contribution at the end of the retreat.

Robert Beatty is the founder and guiding teacher of the Portland Insight Meditation Community. He brings forty-five years of Buddhist Dharma practice and decades as a therapist to his teaching. Robert is a member of the first wave of lay Theravada Buddhist teachers who brought Buddhism from Asia to America. His teaching includes the non-dual perspective. He uses humor, movement poetry and drumming to teach meditation for everyday life, including intimate relationships, parenting, work and community

Contact Improvisation (CI) is a dance practice of caring for oneself while moving in physical contact with others. It asks us to show up in our diversity and focus on the dynamics of interbeing. It calls us to own the inherent belonging and freedom available in the one and only unfolding now. The contact includes us. The improvisation frees us.

The WOW is a five-day journey dedicated to exploring the CI paradigm of mutual well-being, on and off the dance floor. All levels of experience are welcome. Each is supported to begin where they are and be curious about what nourishes and celebrates us all. WOW! Three two-hour sessions are available each day. The dance space is available round the clock.

Carolyn Stuart and Patrick Gracewood are the Touchmonkey limb of CI; a dance duo exploring, teaching, and performing the ‘wow’ of contact improvisation for 30 years. They find the interplay of inquiry, experimentation and discovery to be exhilarating and satisfying. Currently they offer CI events at Gracewood Studio in Portland. We often get requests to explore working with Breitenbush as part of our community and cooperative. Service Week combines this opportunity with an integrated exploration of the noble path of service.

Focused morning circles and special programs provide sharing and inspiration. In addition, guests are given the opportunity to participate in four hours each day of hands-on tasks and projects. Bring comfortable work clothes, gloves, winter-wear and sturdy shoes. Expect to be doing physical, mostly outdoor work. Lodging prices are discounted. If you have ever considered living and working at Breitenbush, and if you are interested in being part of a community of service, begin by joining us this week.

Through classical yoga practices infused with creative subtle body awareness principles, we will explore the dynamic relationship between ease and effort, letting go of that which creates tension while rekindling our ability to connect with our heart.

Are you still waiting to fulfill your potential? Is it finally time to overcome your struggle with career, relationship, family, weight, self esteem or compulsion? What prevents us from manifesting our greatest life is a reservoir of unfelt emotion. Resisting this emotion sabotages all our efforts to change. Connecting to it makes us unstoppable.

Raphael has pioneered a method
of emotional connection that is fast, simple, and can be used in any situation, especially when you’re the most “triggered.” Safe and supportive, this workshop meets you where you are and calls forth your very best. You’ll learn
to heal the deepest wounds, cultivate authenticity, radiate compassionate joy and serve the world.

Raphael Cushnir contributes to the Oprah Magazine, and presents workshops worldwide. The most recent of his six books are The One Thing Holding You Back and Surfing Your Inner Sea.
He came to his current path after years as a schoolteacher, activist and award-winning Hollywood filmmaker. His heart was opened through an experience of profound grief.
