August Workshops

August 2018

Click a workshop for more information.

What is consciousness? Is it limited only to the state through which we experience life? Or are there different layers waiting to be explored? These deeper aspects will be discussed by ‘M’ along with theoretical and practical techniques, which will help you in the process of exploring consciousness.

Mumtaz Ali, also called ‘M,’ was born a Muslim and was attracted to Vedantic philosophy at a young age. He is a student, master and teacher of all spiritual traditions. ‘M’ does not choose one religion over another, preferring to live and teach the essence of all religions. He initiates seekers into Kriya Yoga and other practices. ‘M’’s guru was a direct disciple of the great Himalayan Avatar, Babaji. The Kriya he teaches is of that lineage.

M’ recently authored The Journey Continues–the sequel to the best seller Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master–a Yogi’s Autobiography.

As we approach the end of our current cycle of ages, increasing numbers of Western spiritual seekers are learning to access the inner worlds for power and protection, support and healing, utilizing an ancient method of meditation called shamanic journeywork. This weekend workshop will provide participants with a powerful introduction to the shaman’s path, leading them into connection with their helping spirits and spirit teachers, exploring the issue of personal empowerment. The weekend will close with a healing ritual. Bring a hand drum or rattle, a notebook, an eye shade and a light blanket and small power objects for the altar.

Hank Wesselman, anthropologist, has spent much of his life with traditional people in Africa. He is the author of nine books on shamanism. His most recent are The Re-Enchantment: A Shamanic Path to a Life of Wonder, The Bowl of Light: Ancestral Wisdom from a Hawaiian Shaman and the award-winning Awakening to the Spirit World (with Sandra Ingerman).

Healthcare professionals and laypersons alike are rediscovering the healing modalities pioneered by indigenous shamans. These time-tested techniques are being reworked, providing non-tribal Westerners with effective methods for healing and problem solving. We will expand our connections to our helping spirits, our spirit teachers and our healing masters, as well as the elementals.

We will experience a classic level of shamanic initiation, work with shamanic extraction methods and learn a unique approach to soul retrieval. The week will include ancestral lineage healing and will culminate with a full-on transpersonal shamanic healing ritual. Bring a rattle, hand drum, notebook, a bandana or eyeshade and a light blanket and small power objects for the altar.

Recommended reading: Wesselman and Kuykendall, Spirit Medicine; Ingerman and Wesselman, Awakening to the Spirit World; Wesselman, The Journey to the Sacred Garden. Wesselman, The Re-Enchantment: A Shamanic Path to a Life of Wonder. Visionseeker Level 3 will be offered at Breitenbush Nov 11-16.

Where have you been, and what’s coming next in your Reiki Future??? With Marta Getty

Reiki has been a continuing reflection of growth, and it keeps evolving.

What does that mean in your Reiki life in the coming years and generations?

Hawayo Takata told Marta that when we put our hands on someone, we not only give them energy; they are also reminded of the very best possibilities for their lives. Considering this, what are the very best possibilities for us and Reiki in our future footprints in the sands of time?

Marta Getty was a student of Bethal Phaigh (one of Takata Sensei’s 22 Masters) and a Master Candidate of Hawayo Takata. She was initiated in 1981 as a Master by Phyllis Lei Furumoto. Marta was a member of Oregon’s early Reiki community, and is also one of the founding members of The Reiki Alliance. She is a dynamic storyteller and has traveled from North America to Europe and Australia teaching Reiki.

Over six decades, a contemporary way of “seeing one’s Nature” or “Enlightenment” has developed. In essence, it’s the same as Zen and other disciplines. The Way offers a user-friendly approach to seeing who you truly are. This experiential workshop will guide participants through awareness exercises that allow for the experience of the true nature of being. One is more likely to see their true identity in a minute of active experimentation than in years of reading, satsangs and traditional meditation. Discover this deep truth about your indisputable identity and then go on rediscovering it in daily life.

Richard Lang is a graduate of Cambridge University and coordinator of the Shollond Trust, which was founded to support the worldwide sharing of the Headless Way. He has devoted his life to seeing and to offering this simple, accessible Way. He is author of several books, producer of numerous videos, and a CD.

Sequoia Star, M.Ed., a consultant in education and training, has been on the Headless path for over five years. She is beginning to share this loving, nurturing Way.

Create new rhythms that foster an intimacy with nature. Examine your life and explore how you might increase the quantity and quality of your time outside. We may stargaze, tree-climb, lie in the grass, go barefoot in the river, make rock cairns and, of course, soak in pools. We will also study local ecology, share inspirational readings and find creative ways to express what we learn and observe while relaxing and healing our spirits in the regenerative Breitenbush environment.

The purpose of practicing Breema is to bring you to the present and support you to remain present. Breema’s Nine Principles of Harmony are the key to the system’s many benefits. The principles can be used in any situation in life to deepen self-understanding: Body Comfortable, No Judgment, Single Moment/Single Activity, No Force, Mutual Support, No Extra, Firmness and Gentleness, No Hurry/No Pause and Full Participation.

In a joyful, nonjudgmental atmosphere we will explore the Nine Principles of Harmony and practice Breema’s rhythmic movement sequences. The flowing movements and postures of Breema bodywork and Self-Breema exercises are comfortable and natural. They nourish and energize body, mind, and feelings and lead to a new experience of ourselves. All levels of experience welcome; participants should be comfortable sitting and working on a padded floor. LMTs and DCs earn 15 CEUs.

Taught by Northwest Breema Instructors, certified by the Breema Center in Oakland.

The overthinking mind is the barrier to relaxation, awareness and nonjudgment—three key elements that make life joyous and fulfilling. Mystics have found ways to get beyond the mind, effectively slowing it down so that the silence, stillness and peace within us becomes available. Meditation is the key! Come experience amazing meditation processes that will connect you with that silence and your inner nature (and don’t worry if you can’t sit still! These meditations were created for modern people who may find it difficult to simply sit)!
