BreemaPhotoThe purpose of practicing Breema is to bring you to the present and support you to remain present. Breema’s Nine Principles of Harmony are key to the system’s many benefits. The principles can be used in any situation in life to deepen self-understanding: Body Comfortable, No Judgment, Single Moment/Single Activity, No Force, Mutual Support, No Extra, Firmness and Gentleness, No Hurry/No Pause and Full Participation.

In a joyful, nonjudgmental atmosphere we will explore the Nine Principles of Harmony and practice Breema’s rhythmic movement sequences. The flowing movements and postures of Breema bodywork and Self-Breema exercises are comfortable and natural. They nourish and energize body, mind, and feelings and lead to a new experience of ourselves. All levels of experience welcome; participants should be comfortable sitting and working on a padded floor. LMTs and DCs earn 15 CEUs.

Taught by Northwest Breema Instructors, certified by the Breema Center in Oakland.

The overthinking mind is the barrier to relaxation, awareness and no judgment—three key elements that make life joyous and fulfilling. Mystics have found ways to get beyond the mind, effectively slowing it down so that the silence, stillness and peace within us becomes available. Meditation is the key! Come experience amazing meditation processes that will connect you with that silence and your inner nature! (And don’t worry if you can’t sit still! These meditations were created for modern people who may find it difficult to simply sit.)

Shanti Schenker-Skye, a certified meditation facilitator, met Osho in 1973. She lived in Pune and Rajneeshpuram for many years, participating and leading meditation workshops. She co-directs the Osho World of Meditation Center in Seattle with Subhan, and facilitates meditation classes, events and workshops internationally.

Subhan Schenker has facilitated human potential programs in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the U.S. for the last 37 years. He is a certified counselor, a certified meditation facilitator, and has been an Osho disciple since 1979.

Newcomers and long-time yoga practitioners will find a deeper connection with Self by moving with strength into gentleness. This somatic practice of breath, posture and awareness yokes us to a strength deep within. Our movement practice combines yoga, pilates, resistance stretching and functional fitness to build strength, mobility, grace and ease in the body. The work is easily adapted to all abilities: both the seasoned yogi and the injured will find challenge and support. We discover a way to walk hand-in-hand with pain and fear, and discover the courage to show up for life and the world.

Lisa Wells, PhD, ERYT500, teaches yoga, meditation, mixed-abilities dance, trauma-release, and Ayurveda, and co-owns Live Well Studio in Corvallis. Her 25+ years of yoga practice have brought her patience, humility and happiness. Her 56+ years of life have led her from trauma, through addiction, to recovery and joy in a life that includes rather than excludes suffering. Lisa has been teaching yoga since 2000. She received her PhD in Geology from Stanford University. She specializes in gentle yoga adapted to all bodies.

claude_steinCelebrate the amazing power of your true, authentic voice. Conquer fear, eliminate “wrong notes” and uncover the undeniable beauty of your soul. Whether you already sing or always wished you could, this workshop will indeed change your life. You’ll break through blocks and free up a rich and empowering sound. The results are stunning and transformational, even if you’ve never been able to carry a tune!

There are basic techniques for breathing, tone, range, hitting the notes, projection and overcoming stage-fright. Then voices ring out, as favorite songs become transformational wellsprings, and inner and outer voices align. Multidisciplinary experts have called the results “profound” and “astounding.” Whether you are an absolute beginner, or your goal is to take a public performance to the next level, you’ll find yourself expressing beautiful messages from your heart. This workshop is a Breitenbush favorite and consistently gets incredible reviews.

Claude is one of the great master teachers of our time. So, don’t miss it. Visit www.naturalsinger.com for stories, photos and video. Bring instruments, CDs and song books if you like.

As we age, we can begin to lose flexibility both mentally and physically. We get stuck in habits of thought and movement. Through the practices of Feldenkrais Method®, meditation and gentle, restorative yoga, open yourself up to new possibilities. There is incredible potential for change no matter your age. Whether you are recovering from injury or illness, coping with chronic pain or just want to regain lost mobility or flexibility, you will benefit from this workshop.

Ada Riley, at age 80, is a living testament to these combined practices. Ada began studying yoga and meditation at age 50 and teaching yoga in her mid-50s. At age 75, she came upon the Feldenkrais Method® and began a four-year certification program at age 75

Joanna Dunn has been teaching yoga since 2000. A yoga studio owner and co-director of a teacher training program, she mostly serves students ages 55 to 85 in weekly classes in Leavenworth and residential retreats in Washington State and internationally.

This three-night weekend retreat for women is held primarily in silence, with guided and silent meditations, dharma talks and opportunities for group sharing. The relaxed meditation schedule includes silent bathing hours and generous personal time, inviting each woman to recognize and rest in her innate sacredness. This retreat welcomes beginning as well as experienced meditators and will be limited to 50 women.

As always, this retreat is offered in the ancient tradition of dana (generosity): the teacher offers the teachings as her practice of dana. Participants have an opportunity to practice dana with a contribution of financial support for her ongoing work.

Barbara Secrest studied Buddhism for 30 years, has made numerous trips to Nepal and has studied with teachers in both the Vipassana and Tibetan traditions. For the past 20 years she has practiced with Julie Wester and for the last five years she has been a co-teacher of the Breitenbush women’s retreat. We are happy to have Barbara as the new teacher for this annual women’s retreat.

Amy MinatoJust as we discover those zen-like salamanders hidden under logs, and crawdads under rocks, when we look below the surface of daily life—meaning is revealed. Come be inspired by what you find as we turn over the stones of our lives beneath elder trees and beside the effervescent Breitenbush River. Then practice ways to shape your findings into effective writing. This workshop develops organically with participant interest. Themes we may consider include loss, hope, change, love and spiritual quest. We will weave being outdoors with readings, discussions and writing in a fun, relaxed, supportive atmosphere. All writing levels welcome!

Amy Minato is author of Siesta Lane, a creative nonfiction book about living in a rural community and The Wider Lens, a poetry collection. Her writing has been recognized with a 2004 Oregon Literary Arts Fellowship and her prose with a Walden Fellowship. She currently teaches a sustainable living course at PSU and offers writing workshops through Literary Arts, Wordstock and at conference centers.

This active and reflective Circle of Trust® program is open to men of all ages. The human journey is ultimately a return to who we are. In large group, small group and solitary settings, the journey of returning to ourselves is explored, using the personal stories of men, poetry and stories from wisdom traditions.

We co-create a trustworthy circle in which we can listen to each other with courage and compassion. Within a safe space and as we rest, hike, contemplate and converse, our own voice can be heard: wisdom arises to guide us how to return to ourselves.

Dan Hines and Jeff Creswell are Courage & Renewal facilitators mentored by activist and writer Parker J. Palmer. Jeff has been an elementary school teacher in Portland for decades, and is an educational consultant for the Storyline methodology, developed in Scotland. Dan comes from BC, Canada and brings his eclectic experience as a leadership consultant, zoo manager, Anglican priest, founder of an intentional community and contractor to his work with professionals in diverse settings.
