Join Lisa Mae and Monicka from The Bhaktishop, Portland’s only yoga center that weaves in the teachings of bhakti into yoga. During this immersive weekend we’ll introduce the philosophical essentials of bhakti yoga: hearing, chanting, and remembering God, while honing discipline and attention through the practices of physical yoga asana. In this retreat, work with renewed bio-mechanics of movement to reshape your physical practice, and listen to your heart to cultivate a sense of devotion as you participate in the weaving of these two classical paths of practice as a profound shift in consciousness. Lisa Mae Osborn and Monicka Koneski share the loving path of Bhakti (devotional) yoga as well as the intelligent understanding of aligned and efficient bio-mechanics in the body through yoga. They help inspire other truth seekers to open in new and surprising ways through their own unique expressions in both paths of practice. Bhakti yoga is a practice of giving, and they try to be a living embodiment of that service every day.

As humans we need connection. We long for intimacy, yet so many of us are left feeling unsatisfied, isolated and alone. In this retreat, we will learn to deepen our relationships through the teachings of the Brahma Viharas, the four qualities of the heart: loving-kindness, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity. The Brahma Viharas are like road maps, which help us navigate relationships. Whether we’re relating to ourselves or to others (we’re always relating to something!), these heart teachings will help us to consciously and gracefully meet whatever we’re faced with. We will explore the Brahma Viharas through discussion, postures, breathing, meditation and being in community, and together, we will walk the steps necessary to open into intimacy. Emily Light, E-RYT-500, has been practicing yoga since 2001, teaching since 2007, and in 2015 completed a two year Yoga Therapy Professional Training with Sarahjoy Marsh. She weaves practical application of yoga philosophy, into movement, breath, and meditation guidance, with an intention to create a safe and nurturing place for students to learn and connect.

This all-levels yoga retreat will create a foundation of integrated practices so that we may more fully embody our authentic selves in all aspects of our lives. Utilizing yoga poses, meditation, Kirtan (call and response chanting), and discussion of the heart-centered practices of Bhakti Yoga, we will cultivate awareness of the inherent beauty present in every moment. Throughout our yoga practice we will focus on the dynamic relationship between ease and effort, seek to let go of unnecessary muscular and mental effort, and explore the interconnectedness of all parts of our being, embodying the heart with this unique approach to integrating Hatha and Bhakti yoga. Matt provides joyful, nurturing, structurally sound classes that nourish the soul, support inner-growth and present a physical challenge appropriate for each practitioner. His first entry into movement, breath and spiritual inquiry began in 1995 with the practice of Qigung. In 2003 he started practicing Yoga. Since then many practitioners have served as a source of inspiration, including Zhander Remete, Peter Sterios, Amy Matthews and Swami B.V Tripurari.

Claire & Jerigtu Ashland copy

Energy is the connectivity to everything, from body and mind to time and space. When we experience connection, healing happens on all levels. Our life force flows into the isolated, numb, weak, dim and dark places in our physical and emotional bodies. Through energy level change, karma and fate can be changed. We re-connect with our true self and experience oneness in all. Once this crucial connection is made, spiritual development is exponential. Through the five-days immersion practice of ZY Qigong and Bodhidharma’s Sinews Transformation Classic, raise your energy level to the next plateau and feel change comprehensively. Master teacher Claire Johnson is apprenticed by ZY Qigong lineage holder, and practiced solitary meditations without food or water in Chinese and Tibetan caves. Claire has been teaching and healing for sixteen years throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Jerigtu, Mongolian shaman and healer, comes from a family of well-known Shamans, healers and Tibetan Buddhist Rinpoches (Living Buddha). He is the current lineage holder of a Taoist practice. Jerigtu consistently holds out the big picture for our practice and development.  Please visit www.zyqigong.org for more information.
